Gun Violence

In recent years, gun violence has been a plague in Hinds County, Mississippi, which includes the City of Jackson, the capital city of the State of Mississippi.

In response, the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office has prioritized prosecuting cases involving gun violence. The Violent Crimes Division of the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office reviews all cases where convicted felons are found in possession of a firearm.

Extensive background checks are done on violators to determine the danger they present to the community and each repeat offender’s inherent disregard for the law. The Gun Violence Division of the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office evaluates each convicted felon in possession of a firearm case individually to determine the right outcome for the community, and whether to enhance offenders’ sentencing through habitual offender status, prosecuting each case accordingly.

Additionally, the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office works closely with its federal partners to get both violent, dangerous gun offenders and illegal guns off the streets of Jackson, Mississippi, and Hinds County, Mississippi, as a whole.
