Terrorizer Pleads Guilty to a Spree of Crimes in South Jackson March 5, 2025 (Jackson, MS) – Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced that Steven Jones, Jr. pleaded guilty to six charges, including four counts of armed robbery and two counts of kidnapping, on Monday, March 3, 2025. Jones’ crimes, which took place in South Jackson, began on March 19, 2023, and continued for two weeks thereafter, prompting a series of emergency calls to Jackson Police. Two Life Sentences and Additional 10 Years for Double Murder March 3, 2025 (Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced a guilty verdict in the trial of Jermaine White. He was convicted of two counts of murder and one count of felony possession of a firearm. On January 23, 2022, officers responded to a shooting that occurred at Rainbow Hotel, where KiaraPoole and Samantha Cannon were fatally shot. Both women had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. (Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens II, announces the release of the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office’s Annual Report. This year’s report provides a comprehensive review of criminal justice in Hinds County examining the progress of Smart Justice Initiatives, Grand Jury activity, and trial results. The report concludes with an analysis of the challenges the criminal justice system in Hinds County faces heading into 2024.        The report details the over 1,600 indictments returned by the Hinds County Grand Jury in 2023, as well as the 1,480 felony counts resolved during the period.  The report also provides…

Hinds County District Attorney’s Office Year in Review

This was a busy year for District Attorney Jody Owens and his team at the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office.  As the graphs below reflect, compared to 2021, 2022 saw: 15% more criminal felony cases resolved; 33% more guilty pleas; 3% more cases resolved in pretrial diversion; and, 16% more cases resolved through trials, pleas, dismissals, or diversions.  This means that 2022 saw 25% more active cases resolved through guilty verdicts, guilty pleas, or pretrial diversion.
