On April 25, 2025, the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office proudly announced that Senior Assistant District Attorney Sue M. Perry was named one of two recipients of Mississippi’s 2024 Prosecutor of the Year award.
The honor, awarded by the Mississippi Prosecutors Association, was presented during the Mississippi Spring Prosecutors Conference in Biloxi. The award recognizes exceptional service, leadership, and dedication to the pursuit of justice across the state.
Sue has served the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office with distinction since 2016, earning a reputation for her skillful prosecution of violent crimes and her leadership in complex, high-stakes trials. Prior to joining the office, she spent nearly a decade as a
Special Assistant Attorney General in the Medicaid Fraud and Children’s Divisions, where she led more than 300 prosecutions and helped recover millions of dollars for the State of Mississippi. In the year leading up to the award, she achieved a 95% conviction rate across nine felony jury trials.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Perry’s career has been defined by integrity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to public service. Even while navigating personal responsibilities as a full-time caregiver for her husband, she continued to serve with excellence and dedication. As she prepared for retirement, this recognition stood as a fitting tribute to a career marked by impact, leadership, and service to the people of Mississippi.
District Attorney Jody E. Owens II praised Ms. Perry’s legacy, noting that her work ethic, presence, and results have left a lasting mark on the office and the broader justice system. Her recognition as Prosecutor of the Year reflects not only her legal skill, but the character and professionalism she brought to every case.
