(Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, has announced a guilty verdict in the trial of William “Polo” Edwards for the 2022 murder of Robert “Bobby” Davis, founder of the Better Men Society. Edwards was charged with first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The initial trial in August 2023 ended in a mistrial, prompting the need for a re-trial.
On May 1, 2022, Clinton Police responded to a residence on Hannah Drive in Clinton, Mississippi, where they discovered Davis had been fatally shot inside the home. Edwards shot Davis multiple times, inflicting at least eight gunshot wounds, before fleeing the scene. Davis succumbed to his injuries. Edwards was apprehended two days later, on May 3, 2022, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
During the re-trial, compelling witness and police testimonies provided critical insight into the events leading up to the murder. Testimonies revealed that Edwards entered the home of a key witness, a woman with whom he was having an affair, and deliberately shot Davis in cold blood.
Edwards now faces life in prison without the possibility of parole, to be served in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
District Attorney Owens commented on the verdict, stating: “Justice has been delivered for Robert ‘Bobby’ Davis and his family. Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our community remains unwavering, and this verdict reflects our dedication to holding perpetrators of violent crimes accountable. “The conviction brings some closure to a case that deeply impacted the local community. It also underscores the District Attorney’s Office’s resolve to seek justice for victims and their loved ones while ensuring the safety of Hinds County residents.”
