Guilty Plea Secures 40 Year
Sentence in Belhaven Delivery Driver Murder

(Jackson, MS) – Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced today that Darren Shannon, 25, plead guilty to Second-Degree Murder in the shooting death of 39-year-old Corey Price, a food delivery driver in the Belhaven neighborhood. Shannon was sentenced to 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
On November 2, 2022, officers with the Capitol Police responded to a shooting in the Belhaven neighborhood. Upon arrival, they learned that Corey Price, a food delivery driver, had been shot while delivering an order. Witnesses reported hearing a car horn, followed by a gunshot and a scream. The incident was captured on a neighbor’s surveillance camera, which showed a white SUV arriving at the scene with multiple occupants.
Two male suspects exited the vehicle and approached Price as he sat in his car in front of the residence where he was making a delivery. The suspects confronted Price, used profanities, and demanded that he exit the vehicle. Price sounded his car horn, appearing to alert others that he was in distress. After exiting, he attempted to run. Moments later, a single gunshot was heard. The suspects, including Shannon, then fled the scene in a white SUV. Price was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators determined the suspects came to the area intending to commit a carjacking.
Prior to opening statements, Shannon entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 40 years in prison to be served in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
