Press Release – Michael McGlothin

Repeat Felon Guilty After Stolen Kia Chase Under

the Influence Leaves Innocent Driver Critically Injured

September 23rd, 2025

(Jackson, MS) – Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced today that 51-year-old, Michael McGlothin pled guilty during trial to multiple felony counts stemming from a high-speed police pursuit and collision that left an innocent driver critically injured and airlifted for emergency treatment.

On September 30, 2023, officers attempted to stop a stolen gray 2016 Kia Soul. The driver fled at a high rate of speed into the City of Jackson, ignoring active lights and sirens. During the pursuit, the Kia sped through multiple intersections, struck a concrete divider, ran a red light, and entered the intersection of Highway 80 and Robinson Road. There it crashed into a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Marcus Singleton, causing catastrophic damage. Singleton was unconscious at the scene and was airlifted to the hospital. McGlothin attempted to flee before being taken into custody. Officers recovered a bag of methamphetamine and a handgun inside the Kia.

During trial, McGlothin pled guilty as an 81 habitual offender to all counts of the indictment: Felony Fleeing, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated DUI, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 25 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections to be served day for day, without eligibility for parole or early release.

“Fleeing from law enforcement while driving a stolen vehicle and operating under the influence put every motorist, pedestrian, and first responder in grave danger,” said District Attorney Owens. “Repeat offenders who terrorize our community and show no respect for law enforcement will face the full weight of prosecution and spend decades in prison, not on our streets.”
