Deadly Barn Confrontation
Between Friends Leads to Guilty Verdict

(Jackson, MS) The Hinds County District Attorney’s Office announced today that Michael Harvey, Jr. has been found guilty of First-Degree Murder in the shooting death of 27-year-old Brandon Nix. The incident occurred in Terry in July 2022.
On July 2, 2022, Hinds County deputies responded to a shooting at a horse barn on Wynndale Road in Terry. According to investigators, Harvey and Nix became involved in an argument that quickly escalated. During the confrontation, Harvey retrieved a firearm and shot Nix twice, resulting in his death at the scene. Witnesses confirmed the two men had been in an altercation moments before the shooting occurred.
After trial, the jury returned a guilty verdict for First-Degree Murder and Harvey was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole to be served under the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
“Every life lost to gun violence is a call to do better as a community,” said Chief ADA Jamie McBride. “It’s on all of us, in the courtroom and beyond, to break this cycle and protect the next generation.”
