(Jackson, MS)After three days of trial, Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announces the successful prosecution of Marvin Willoughby in connection with the 2017 murder of 28-year-old Freddie Mosley at a local motel.
On September 12, 2017, officers with the Jackson Police Department (JPD) responded a shooting at the Mustang Motel in Jackson. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male later identified as Freddie Mosley. Detectives with JPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division obtained security footage of the shooting, and with the help of the public, identified Willoughby as the shooter.
Following a two-week manhunt across several states, Willoughby was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Kansas. Further investigation revealed that Willoughby was engaged in human trafficking and prostitution, bringing women from out-of-state to Jackson to engage in the sex-trade.
“This tragic loss of life is a stark reminder of the violence perpetuated upon the community by human trafficking,” said District Attorney Owens. “We hope that this conviction brings some justice to the Mosley family and serves as a deterrent to others who may become involved in human trafficking.”
