State v. lonzell williams

(Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announces the guilty verdict convicting Lonzell Williams of Aggravated Assault. Williams was convicted following a week-long trial, in the Circuit Court of Hinds County.
On November 11, 2019, JPD officers responded to 1065 I-20 Frontage Road in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, officers discovered 24-year-old Brandi Breland with multiple injuries to her face and body. Breland informed the officers, that Williams who was her boyfriend at the time, struck her with a puddy knife and a metal pipe. Breland was pregnant by Williams, at the time the assault occurred. She was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Williams potentially faces up to 20 years imprisonment in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Sentencing is scheduled on April 15, 2024.

State v. Lashundra bass
Moments before trial was began, Lashundra Bass pled guilty to second degree murder for the killing of Marcus Moore on June 4, 2022. Bass was an accomplice to the murder and witnessed another individual shoot Moore in the back of the head. Moore was in the driver’s seat in his vehicle at a gas station parking lot at the time he was shot. Moore eventually succumbed to his injuries. Bass drove the vehicle that left the scene with Williams, after the shooting.
Bass was sentenced to 22 years, with 2 years suspended, and 20 years to serve in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with a two-year post-release supervision.
“We will continue to hold those accountable for senseless violence and crimes in Hinds County and ensure that the families of the victims get justice”, says District Attorney Owens.
