Hinds County Jury Convicts Kenya Webster on Multiple Counts in double homicide

(Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II announced today that a Hinds County jury has found 26-year-old Kenya Webster guilty of two counts of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of drive-by shooting, and one count of shooting into a vehicle in connection with a deadly shooting spree from 2021.
On December 15, 2021, detectives with the Jackson Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the intersection of Beasley and Brownlee Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was later identified as Keyunta McWilliams, who was eight months pregnant. McWilliams and the child succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Witnesses identified Webster as the gunman in a drive-by shooting involving military-style assault weapons, along with other individuals involved in the attack. Webster fired multiple rounds into an occupied vehicle, killing McWilliams and her unborn child. During the drive-by, he also fired at McWilliams’ boyfriend and her two-year-old child, who were inside the vehicle at the time. Detectives testified that Webster later admitted to firing at McWilliams during a law enforcement interview. Webster was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
Webster was found guilty on all counts against him. He was sentenced to two mandatory life sentences without the possibility of parole plus 55 years to be served in custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
“This conviction brings accountability for an unspeakable act of violence that claimed the lives of a young mother and her unborn child, while also placing others—including a toddler—directly in harm’s way,” said District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II. “We are grateful to the jury for their careful consideration of the evidence and to law enforcement for their dedication to pursuing justice for the victims and their families.”
