Repeat Felon Sentenced for Firing Gun
at Girlfriend During Domestic Violence Dispute

(Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced a guilty verdict in the trial of Kenny Wiggins, who was convicted of Domestic Aggravated Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The charges stem from a violent domestic incident in which Wiggins fired a handgun at his girlfriend during a confrontation.
On August 30, 2022, officers responded to reports of a domestic altercation where the defendant, who was in a romantic relationship with the victim, fired a handgun at her during a dispute, placing her life in immediate danger. The firearm discharge occurred in close proximity to the victim and could have resulted in fatal injuries. The investigation later revealed that the defendant was a previously convicted felon, with prior convictions for Possession of Cocaine, Cyberstalking, and Business Burglary, making his possession of a firearm both illegal and deeply concerning. The jury returned a guilty verdict on both counts.
Wiggins is a habitual offender with three prior felony convictions across Hinds and Madison Counties. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison to serve day by day. Sentencing has yet to be scheduled.

Owens, II. “In this case, the attack was caught on a Ring camera, clear, chilling evidence that helped secure the conviction. The victim’s survival, and her courage to tell her story, now stand as a powerful example to the community of what’s at stake, and why we must never stay silent in the face of violence.”
