Hinds County Jury Verdict
Leads to 40-Year Sentence in Apartment Murder

(Jackson, MS) – Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced today that a jury has found 34-year-old Julius Adams guilty of Second-Degree Murder in the shooting death of 39-year-old Timothy White.
On September 24, 2021, officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a shooting in the 4900 block of McWillie Drive. Upon arrival, they were met by White’s girlfriend who stated that her boyfriend had been shot. Timothy White was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators learned that Adams had been searching for the mother of his child and first went to an apartment belonging to the daughter of White’s girlfriend. Adams pulled out a gun and demanded to know where she was. When she told him that she did not know, he took her cellphone and began sending text messages pretending to be her in an attempt to locate the woman. Shortly after, the daughter went to her mother’s apartment in the same complex, where Timothy White also lived. Moments later, Adams arrived and knocked on the door. When White answered, Adams began yelling and asked if the woman was inside. White told Adams to calm down and respect his apartment while he checked to see if she wanted to speak with him. As he attempted to close the door, Adams placed his foot in the doorway and asked to hit his cigarette. When White handed it to him, Adams pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, striking White in the head before fleeing the scene on foot. On September 28, 2021, Adams surrendered himself to the Jackson Police Department.
Adams was found guilty of Second-Degree Murder. He was sentenced by Judge Stevenson to 40 years in prison to be served in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
“A man lost his life simply answering his front door,” District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II. “This defendant tracked someone down with a gun and brought violence to someone else’s home. This was a senseless and preventable act of violence. Our office will continue to hold violent offenders accountable.”
