State v. Jordan Cummins

(Jackson, MS) After a nearly two-week-long trial, Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announces the successful prosecution of 29-year-old Jordan Cummins who was found guilty of two counts of First-Degree Murder for killing two individuals at the 2023 St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
On March 25, 2023, Capitol Police Investigators responded to the scene of a shooting along the parade route near Amite and Jefferson Street, where they discovered Joshua Spann, 27, and Auden Jubilee Simpkins, 23 were shot to death outside the State Fairgrounds. Cummins opened fire killing both victims, after having a physical altercation with his girlfriend. He then fled the scene and was later captured by Capitol Police.
During the trial, the State presented evidence of a video of Cummins, while in jail, making expletive comments on the deaths of the two victims.
Cummins was sentenced to life in prison to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, without the possibility of parole.
District Attorney Jody Owens stated, “We commend the hard work of Capitol Police,
investigation teams, and the many witnesses that bravely came forward with the truth of what happened. I am thankful the jury delivered justice to the families of the victims.”
