Press Release – Emmanuel Guerrero

Man Found Guilty of Murder After Repeatedly Running Over Girlfriend, Killing Mother of His Twins

September 17th, 2025

(Jackson, MS) Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced today that a jury has found 23-year-old, Emmanuel Guerrero guilty of First-Degree Murder in the death of his girlfriend, 23-year-old, Monique Martinez, the mother of Guerrero’s twin children.

On the evening of October 4, 2022, Guerrero and Martinez became involved in a heated argument on Creston Avenue in Jackson. The confrontation escalated when Guerrero got into his vehicle, struck Martinez with his car, and then repeatedly ran over her body. Witnesses shouted for Guerrero to stop, but he continued to drive over her multiple times. Martinez suffered catastrophic injuries and died at the scene. Guerrero fled from the location immediately after the assault on foot but was arrested by Jackson Police just one street away.

Guerrero was found guilty of Second-Degree Murder and upon request of the State the jury re deliberated and affixed a life sentence to Guerrero. He will spend life in prison without the possibility of parole under the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

“Too many families have been shattered by domestic violence. What Ms. Martinez endured in her final moments was unimaginable,” said District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II. “She was a young mother whose life was stolen in a violent act of rage. No child should have to grow up knowing their parent’s life was taken by the other. Our office is committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable.”
