Press Release-Dontarius Magee

Passenger Sentenced to

30 Years After Guilty Plea in Lyft Driver Attack

April 15, 2025

Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announced on Monday, April 14, 2025, that Dontarius Magee pleaded guilty to four charges — armed robbery, armed carjacking, attempted murder, and kidnapping — all related to a 2021 incident.

On November 2, 2021, Jackson Police Officers responded to a shooting incident involving Brandy Littrell, who had been attacked shortly after picking up a passenger through Lyft at the Spring Lake Apartments in Byram. The passenger, later identified as Dontarius Magee, 17 at the time, lured Littrell to an apartment complex and pulled out an assault weapon, hijacked her vehicle, took her belongings, and forced her into the backseat at gunpoint. According to police, Magee drove Littrell to a wooded area off Beasley Road, where he ordered her to crawl into the bushes before shooting her at least seven times, leaving her for dead. Littrell managed to escape and get help. Magee was later arrested, taken into custody, and charged without bond.

“This was a violent and terrifying act,” stated District Attorney Owen. “We are incredibly grateful that Ms. Littrell survived such a horrific attack. We also commend the swift response of the Jackson Police Department.”

Magee was sentenced to 25 years for attempted murder, 25 years for armed carjacking, 30 years for kidnapping, and 30 years for armed robbery. All sentences are to be served concurrently in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
