Crimes Against Children Division
Every year in the United States, more than 4 million cases of child physical abuse and over 80,000 cases of child sexual abuse are reported to authorities. These crimes leave lifelong scars, not just for the victims but for families and communities.
The Crimes Against Children Division of the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office is a specialized prosecutorial unit dedicated to seeking justice in cases involving the abuse, exploitation, or endangerment of children.
What We Prosecute
Our team focuses on some of the most serious and sensitive crimes committed against minors, including:
- Child physical abuse
- Child sexual abuse and molestation
- Child pornography and exploitation
- Human trafficking involving minors
- Internet crimes targeting children
- Kidnapping and custodial interference
- Neglect and endangerment of minors
- Other offenses impacting the safety and wellbeing of children
Our Approach
Cases involving children require delicate, trauma-informed handling. Prosecutors in this Division:
- Receive ongoing specialized training in child abuse and victim-sensitive prosecution
- Work closely with the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and other partner agencies
- Coordinate with law enforcement, child protection services, and forensic interviewers
- Prioritize the protection, privacy, and emotional safety of the child throughout the legal process
